BY Nahin Sultana

29 Jun 2026

To avoid guesswork, the statistics often help. The same thing goes for AI in education statistics. A lot of users are looking for it to understand how the future would be for both learners and teachers.

Thinking of that, I thought of doing some research and checking the stats along with surveys.

In this guide, you’ll learn about all the new statistics of AI-related insights in education.

Let me share what I found so far!

TL;DR

This guide shows the current AI in education statistics in 2026, focusing on the student’s and teacher’s perspectives. It also shows the market size and the good & side effects of AI.

Overview of the top 10 AI in education statistics

  • 7 in 10 teens are adapting to the use of AI tools for completing their homework. (APA)

  • AI in the education market shows 25.9% of CAGR as it is estimated to grow to $57.2 billion in 2033. (Grand View Research)

  • 49% of students believe that AI helped them improve their experience. (HEPI)

  • 66% of teachers and 52% of learners prefer having AI training from their institution monthly or quarterly. (Microsoft)

  • Depending on AI for basic tasks can harm cognitive ability. (Fast Company)

  • Learner’s performance can improve with AI tools, but it shows mixed outcomes once removed. (Stanford University)

  • 74% of users find AI helpful to learn something new or understand a tough topic. (Google)

  • 1 in 4 students use AI chatbots on a daily basis. (Digital Education Council)

  • 80% of executives predict better growth in AI use for student’s bright future. (Ellucian)

  • To help improve the student and teachers experience in the field of AI, UNESCO has launched a policy based on the framework of the Beijing Consensus. (UNESCO)

  • 57% use chatbots to find new information.

  • 54% use chatbots to get some help with school homework.

  • 47% use chatbots for entertainment purposes.

4. Almost 49% of students think AI improves the student experience

Up to 49% of learners think AI helped them with a great student experience based on the HEPI studies. Plus, they think it saves time, improves understanding, and gives quick support.

5. 55% teachers use AI tools to plan or design the lessons

According to Youngstown State University, it shows that 55% of tutors are using AI tools for lesson planning and curriculum design.

Plus, 31% of them use AI tools for grading and giving feedback or personalized learning support.

In fact, the same study shows 12% teachers use AI tools on a daily basis. And, 15% of tutors are using ChatGPT regularly for their teaching activities.

Statistics on AI in education about the market size

image

The market size of AI in education is around $11.4 billion in 2026, based on Grand View Research. But, there’s more to it.

The same study also shows that it has 25.9% of CAGR ratio, indicating the growth rate.

Besides, North America is the largest regional market with 37.5% of revenue share in 2025.

Apart from that, the Asia Pacific (China, India, Japan, and so on) is the fastest-growing regional market in terms of AI usage in education.

On top of that, OpenAI, Amazon, IBM, Microsoft, and Google are some of the top companies that provide AI tools for educational uses.

AI statistics on the positive influence on students & teachers

1. 81% of learners and tutors found a positive influence on higher education

The Coursera report shows that 81% of students and teachers find a positive influence on higher education.

2. Teachers save 42 days who regularly use AI per year

Based on the Walton Family Foundation, tutors who daily use AI tools usually end up saving 42 days per school year.

3. Teachers see some usefulness of AI in saving time and lessening workloads

The survey of the European School Education Platform shows that 52% teachers find AI helpful to save time on pedagogical tasks.

Plus, 49% of teachers find it helpful for making customized teaching resources. Besides, 40% of them find it helpful to highlight administrative tasks.

In fact, teachers think it benefits them in terms of personalization and inclusion. Here are the details:

image
  • 37% value AI’s potential to give support in differentiated learning.

  • 30% find it helpful for teaching languages and translations.

  • 24% think it is useful to give support to special educational needs.

  • 21% consider AI tools helpful to increase pupil engagement.

AI statistics on the negative influence on students & teachers

1. AI usage can cause harm to critical thinking

Based on the survey of Rand, it shows 67% of learners are having issues with critical thinking because of AI usage for schoolwork.

In fact, it was 54% earlier this year, but this seems to be worsening the state of learners. However, it shows 78% harm to critical thinking, even to those who never use AI for schoolwork.

2. Learners are constantly using AI to cheat on exams

According to a Study survey, it shows that students are using AI and chatbots to cheat in exams.

The same report also shows that 48% of learners use ChatGPT when doing an at-home test or quiz.

Plus, it shows 53% use the same AI tool to write an essay, while 22% do it to make an outline for a paper.

3. AI shows great harm to the learner’s cognitive development

The NPR study shows that the AI is causing great harm to the student’s brain in the cognitive part.

This also shows that students who regularly use AI and depend too much on it are having some struggles with developing the cognitive part.

4. One study shows that too much reliance on AI can lower social interaction & creativity.

NSF Journals survey shows that the students who are depending too much on AI tools or chatbots are losing their creative thinking. Plus, it shows that they are lacking in normal student and teacher social interaction.

5. 71% teachers are finding it hard to detect the AI content from the student’s actual work

Due to the advancement of AI tools, it has become easier for students to use AI tools to generate homework.

But then, one study shows 71% teachers are struggling to differentiate the content of students from the AI-generated one.

This also means that there are fewer ways to determine if the students are actually learning or not.

AI Statistics on personalized learning

Coursera, Duolingo, Khan Academy, and so on are some of the main platforms that give you AI to personalize learning.

Plus, the global AI in personalized learning and educational technology market size will be $291.85 billion in 2035.

Another study also shows that learners get AI-personalized suggestions that seem to increase 8.5% exercise completion rates.

Ending notes on AI in education statistics

So, that’s all about AI in education statistics! I understand that sometimes it is essential to look into the stats to make the right decisions.

Based on the statistics, it shows that the use of AI will be there, but it will have some restrictions.

Overall, you can try implementing AI in educational content in the future. But, I would suggest not to depend fully on it as this doesn’t have creativity, imagination, and ideas.

Hope you find this guide helpful to get the points!
